Keeping in touch with work on holiday

September 1st, 2007 | by James Welch

04_04_7_thumb.jpgI was away from the office a few weeks ago when on holiday in Las Vegas. With the aide of a Blackberry phone for email and calls from and to the office and the use of my trusty Apple laptop, I was virtually there even when laying on my king-sized bed watching banal American soaps.

This is happening with so many workers in office space who cannot seem to leave the office even tho they are on holiday. It is suggested that 50% of office workers stay in touch this way when they are on a break.

Over 60% are worried about their jobs while away - hoping that they will be safe on their return.

I wonder if this is a good thing for the future - the fact that the internet is everwhere you go. In the future will we be allowed by our employers to take holidays WITHOUT our laptops??
