Serviced office space to take off in the UK?

Office space. Is 2008 the year for the Office space serviced office serviced officesserviced office?

Over the past 12 months, the term serviced office has wormed its way in to the online (lets just say Google - Ed.) dictionary at a greater rate than ever before.

This is due to many factors of course, such as the continual growth of Regus, the further establishment of larger office space players such as MWB, web-savvy online office brokers such as officebroker.com and the increasing number of tech-savvy start-ups who are finding new ways to build a better business model for themselves - and of course, the advent of Choregus news.

However, it may be something else altogether that heightens the term serviced office and throws it to an even greater audience - the global credit crunch (ah, that old chestnut - Ed.).

The credit crunch is forcing businesses to think again about moving into buildings on a long-term basis that then need to be fitted out and turned into a safe working environment. Large costs are simply not an option for a lot of firms.

With small companies and start-ups not having the finances to lease office space at huge cost to their business, a serviced office from people like MWB, Avanta, United Business Centres and Regus helps them to help themselves to grow. The monthly all-in fees, rather than separate costs for electricity, phones and other necessary evils of business are a godsend for smaller operations who don’t have enough time to be concentrating on administration of bills and payments.

But this doesn’t stop at small firms. Large organisations such as Google, Yahoo and the Government are just some of the companies that now use serviced offices in various locations for monetary and simplicity-of-administration uses.

So, as more companies from both ends of the scale are being made aware of the serviced office market by news sources like Choregus, will 2008 finally be the year when serviced offices hit the mainstream and are not just an option for the self-educated?
