Regus to leave Britain?

August 29th, 2008 | by James Welch

It is widely expected that Regus will today state its intention to leave Britain due to our tax regime - something that many other companies are considering at this time.

It is not understood where Regus may relocate to as yet, but Dublin has been the favoured choice of other recently departed businesses of the country.

We can fully understand this move here at Choregus, which should give the company a better chance to beat the economic slowdown.  With its own office portfolio, surely there cannot be many other Office space UK serviced officesUK businesses in a better position to move so quickly and so frugally.

At this crucial time, despite efforts by The Chancellor, Alistair Darling to entice large UK companies to stay within the boundaries of the British Isles, this potential move could go a long way to stabilising the flagship business of our industry during the potential financial hardships to come.

Update: Regus have announced that they will be leaving to Luxembourg in a method to internationalise the business.

On top of that, profits with a rise of 39% were announced!

This must be a good sign for the serviced office space industry don’t you think?

Despite having a cash strapped treasury, I think a cut in coporation tax could help the UK economy by in the long run, creating more revenue. More companies will follow Regus’ example if the government does not reduce the burden on UK companies. We saw how quickly the Irish economy grew when the government cut business taxes there.

The UK was once seen as one of the best places to locate a business as we had a competitive, growing economy and flexible labour markets.
