Planning committee restrict height of new London development

Land Securities planned development of a transport interchange at Victoria Station will have to be downgraded because the proposed height would impair the view of the gardens at Buckingham Palace, a planning committee has said.
The palace gardens are a “World Heritage Site” and so the committee members said the planned height would block the view, including the view that the Queen herself has from her balcony.
The company was planning to create two 128 metre buildings at the site which totals over thirteen acres of land, a substantial amount of which is being used as prime location office space.
Mike Hussey, MD for Land Securities’ Lodon Portfolio warned of serious problems over the height restrictions. The problem is compounded by the fact that only about thirty percent of the site can be developed because of issues such as the crossrail line.
Despite providing £200m for transport improvements the council stated that the development did not provide enough for the local community.
