Mobile shelving improves office space

March 13th, 2008 | by Samantha Middleton

File stationMobile shelving company, Rackline, have released a product to save time, space and most importantly, money, for companies that are in need of more office space.

The ‘filestation’, described by Rackline as “low level desk mobile storage”, recently triumphed at the FX International Interior Design Awards and was runner up in the Product of the Year category at the Mixology North Awards.

So what exactly is filestation?

“Filestation is a high-density, low-profile way for any office to file documents and paperwork” says Tracy Goodwin, commercial manager at Rackline.

There seem to be lots of benefits of using the filestation product, we have found. Because its mobile shelving, it can be located in the same office that you currently work in, without taking up too much space.

Lots of companies house filing cabinets in dedicated rooms or storage areas, which means more travel for workers who need to use the files and documents. This of course decreases productivity within the the office, so the mobile racking as its also called, can be used to great effect, saving money and time for a business.

Facts and Figures

In a standard office layout containing 100 workstations and 192 filing cabinets, by using filestation instead of traditional methods, the same space could incorporate 130 workstations - an increase of 30%. Using City of Office space London serviced officesLondon office rental prices, this could save £109k per year for a business.

I can see serviced office companies rubbing their hands together thinking of all that space that can be turned in to further offices!

Im sure that, having worked in the serviced office industry, where space is a priority that this would be extremely well received. If it just allows space for one extra office to a city-centre serviced office area, then its worth it. I suspect it will save more than that though.

The filestation looks a nice piece of kit. Can’t believe it would save over £100k a year and provide all that extra usable workspace too. Found a good hub page on general office storage recently - http://www.hubpages.com/hub/Office-Storage-Does-Not-Have-To-Be-Boring but it doesn’t come close to the filestation!
