HBOS make a swoop for Fountainbridge

March 5th, 2008 | by Simon Rattray |

HBOS are in talks with Scottish & Newcastle aimed at a £100 million pound take over of the site of their former brewery.  The brewery closed three years ago after 150 years in use.  The site at Fountainbridge has become an increasingly popular area of Edinburgh.  If successful in taking over the site HBOS plan to merge all of their 16 existing office locations (excluding the mound) at the one site.

The new site would house a massive 6,000 jobs potentially, rivaling RBS’s Gogarburn site.  It is estimated that it would also cost an extra £350 million pounds to develop the site, but there were a number of problems that may hinder this said HBOS with completion not expected for at least 5 years.

It is understood that HBOS had also been liaising with two other interested parties, Springside and BurEDI who have allegedly threatened legal action should they get gazumped by HBOS.
