Flexible working patterns

New laws are to be announced by the Government that will extend the right to flexible working hours. Workers who have children aged up to 16 will be able to request from their employer the right to flexible working. It is thought up to 4.5 million workers will benefit from the new plans. However Regus, the leading supplier of flexible workspace solutions thought that the right to flexible working could have been extended to all employees.

Kurt Mroncz speaking on behlaf of Regus said “The right to flexible working is increasingly high on employees’ agendas ─ and not just parents. With growing concern about work-life balance and the environmental impact of the daily commute, we’re seeing increasing demand for alternatives which allow employees to work flexibly, whether from home or from a Office space serviced office serviced officesserviced office near to their house. Add to this the soaring price of fuel which is taking an increasingly large slice of wage packets for staff forced to commute every day and there is a compelling case for making flexible working available to all.”

It has been suggested that flexible working is as important, if not more important than salary levels. Whilst this can be argued over, one thing is for certain that the demand for flexible working is set to increase. Meeting this demand is the serviced office industry where a number of initiatives have allowed workers to adapt to changing working practices. The increasing in demand for flexible working should be a great benefit to the serviced office industry.
