Energy efficiency in the office

Choregus has identified energy efficiency as being the biggest buzzword for government and business over the next ten years as they look to combat climate change.
It is estimated that energy efficient policies and technologies will mean 78 per cent less CO2 emissions by 2030, this compares with 12 per cent decrease from renewable energies and 10 per cent from nuclear. So technologies that cut energy bills and carbon emissions make simple business sense for office based companies.
Advanced metering technology works by identifying potential energy savings by telling companies how they use their energy. At present this method is only used in large companies rather than the small and medium companies.
Office provider, Stonemartin, who currently manage over 388,000 sq ft of office space, installed a metering system from CarbonAqua in its London office. What the system does is to show energy usage by the minute for everything, including air conditioning and the power sockets.
CarbonAqua identified 25 to 30 per cent of potential energy savings by identifying the big users of electricity and optimizing the equipment to bring usage down to an acceptable level.
It is estimated by Stonemartin that the installation of the metering system will have paid for itself within months by reducing its total yearly energy cost by around 30 per cent.
