Easynet to launch hi-spec telepresence service
April 8th, 2008 | by Simon RattrayEasynet is set to become the first UK
serviced office provider to offer a fully managed telepresence service.
Telepresence is an advanced form of video conferencing that allows the meeting participants to see life size, high resolution pictures of each other. Up until now it was only available by ordering the equipment itself from companies such as Cisco.
Easynet are aiming to offer a comprehensive service for companies including full installation and management. They will handle the network on which the telepresence operates from their control centre in London. Telepresence is in its infancy but it could really take off if initiatives like this get off the ground. They are a fantastic way for clients and colleagues to liaise, especially those based overseas.
It will no doubt be highly popular with corporate clients who can afford the service. An installation costs up to £150,000 per site, but when you consider they can accommodate up to ten people at a time it could pay for itself when compared to international travel and hotels bills etc.
I would watch out for other companies who are hot on their tails - Ed.
